Irish Soda Bread Recipe

You don’t have to be Irish to love this sweet and flavorful soda bread! Pops of raisins and earthy caraway seeds add a delightful surprise to each bite. Made with Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend, this recipe contains 15% fewer calories and 50% less sugar* than the full-sugar version.

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 Tbsp. caraway seeds

  • 13 cup Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend

  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup raisins

  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk

  • 2 eggs**

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract


  • 1.

    Preheat an oven to 350°F.

  • 2.

    Combine flour, Truvía® Cane Sugar Blend, caraway seeds, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt in a mixing bowl.

  • 3.

    Mix on low speed 1 minute.

  • 4.

    Add in raisins, mix 30 seconds on low.

  • 5.

    Combine all remaining ingredients and add to dry ingredients.

  • 6.

    Mix on low for 2 minutes.

  • 7.

    Grease an 8 in cake pan.

  • 8.

    Transfer dough to pan.

  • 9.

    Bake 45 to 50 minutes.

  • 10.

    20 minutes into the bake, with a greased knife cut a deep x into the middle to the dough, this will help to prevent dough from ripping on sides during bake.

  • 11.

    Cool for 5 minutes.

  • 12.

    Carefully remove bread from pan, using a knife to release the edges.

  • 13.

    Let cool completely and serve.

  • 14.

    Store leftovers in a sealed container.
