Homemade Applesauce Recipe

Bowl of homemade applesauce

This applesauce is delicious either hot or cold and pairs well with pork chops. It's terrific with cottage cheese as a light lunch, and great with frozen vanilla yogurt as a dessert. This applesauce is made with Truvia Original Sweetener and has 45% fewer calories* and 50% less sugar* than the regular sugar-sweetened version. Makes 14 servings.

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Serving size: 12 cup

Calories: 60 Calories

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs of apples (about 7 to 10 apples, depending on the size), peeled, cored, and quartered (use apple varieties that are good for cooking such as Granny Smith, Braeburn, Fuji, or Golden Delicious)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 13 cup of zero-calorie Truvia Original Calorie-Free Sweetener Spoonable Jar*** (Try our stevia leaf or monk fruit sweetener!)

  • 14 tsp salt

Directions

  • 1.

    Peel, core and quarter apples.

  • 2.

In a large saucepan combine apples, water, cinnamon and Truvia Original Sweetener.

  • 3.

Bring to a boil on high heat, cover and reduce heat to a low simmer for 25-35 minutes or until the apples are completely tender and cooked through.

  • 4.

Remove the pot from the heat.

  • 5.

Use a potato masher to mash the cooked apples in the pot to make a chunky applesauce. For a smoother applesauce, purée them in a blender. (Do small batches and do not fill the blender bowl more than halfway.)

  • 6.

Place in a sealable container and store in the refrigerator.

*This applesauce has 60 calories and 13 grams of sugar per serving compared to the full-sugar version which has 110 calories and 26 gram of sugar per serving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid sauce This sauce was fairly good - I'm big fan of apple sauce and I thought the truvia addition didn't detract from the recipe. Of course, it's nice to save on the calories. I like to heat up the sauce and serve with light vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Delicious!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious and Nutritious I hand a mixed bag of apples that needed to be used immediately and instantly thought of applesauce. The kind you get in the store has lots of sugar and additives which are bad for you. I made two batches; one following the recipe exactly and the other using pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon and added cranraisins. The Truvia gave it the sweetness it needed but was not overpowering. I will be making it again but this time leaving some of the peel and also cooking it in the crockpot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sugar Free Desert I think this is a great recipe. It would create a healthy, sugar-free desert for you and your family. I could also see another use for it. I have substituted liquid stevia squirted onto unsweetened applesauce for a liquid sweetener in baking. With this recipe, I wouldn't have to wonder what was in the applesauce I purchased at the store, as I would be in control of the type of apples (organic), the water (filtered), and the cinnamon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delicious Truvia Applesauce Recipe This is an easy and delicious recipe. I use Truvia all the time. But the last time I made the homemade apple sauce I used Granny Smith apples, which are tart, and needed the Truvia to sweeten the end result. I always improvise on my recipes to suit my taste. I used a dash of cinnamon to add to the flavor and sauteed the apples to my liking. And it was delicious.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features This is a great tasting recipe, that is quick to make. There is nothing like warm homemade applesauce on a cold Winter day! For added health benefits, we always use apples with the peel on. We used Gala apples for this recipe, as they are our favorite. As always, Truvia adds the right amount of sweetness, without the calories. My family eats it as a snack instead of sugary sweets. Thank you Truvia!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, Delicious, Comfort Food OMG, All Natural, good for you, reminds me of home Recipe, but healthier. I began using Truvia as a change for the better, to help us lose weight & feel better about ourselves. I thought, like other changes, it would be hard for my kids to accept. But Truvia tastes so natural, they took to it immediately, no questions asked. This Applesauce Recipe is so good, my kids fight over who gets to lick the spoon. Only Sweetner I use now. Happy & Healthy :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Marvelous I was making this before I even saw the recipe. I love applesauce and the only type of sugar I use for anything is Truvia so I have been making my own for about 5 years. I prefer it pureed. I carry packets of truvia in my pocketbook, never caught without it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm 3 again!! I love the taste of sweet applesauce, but with my doctor telling me to cut back I had to resort to unsweetened applesauce. The taste or natural applesauce was very tart abd sour. Making applesauce with truvui gives me a healthy sweet alternative
