Are Truvia and Stevia the same?

Truvia is not the same as stevia. Stevia leaf extract is a key ingredient in Truvia sweeteners, and each delicious taste contains purified extract made from the best-tasting parts of the stevia plant.

Truvia Sweetener Ingredients

Stevia leaf extract comes from the sweet leaves of the stevia plant. To extract the plant’s intense sweetness, stevia leaves are harvested and dried. The leaves are then steeped in hot water. The resulting liquid extract is filtered, purified, and dried, resulting in the crystalized stevia leaf extract. Over 200 times sweeter than sugar, stevia leaf extract is the primary sweetening ingredient in Truvia Calorie-Free Sweetener.

Monk Fruit extract is the high purity extract that comes from monk fruit, which may be used as a sweetening ingredient in foods, beverages, or tabletop sweeteners. It’s about 200 times sweeter than sugar.

Natural flavors are used as an ingredient in some Truvia® Calorie-Free Sweeteners and Truvia® Liquid Sweeteners. Like pepper, salt, or any other spice that would be used to heighten the taste of food, natural flavors are used to bring out the best.

Erythritol is the largest ingredient, by weight, in Truvia Calorie-Free Sweeteners made with Erythritol and is used as an ingredient to provide bulk and a sugar-like crystalline appearance and texture. The erythritol used in these products is produced through a fermentation process. You can learn more about the role erythritol plays in sugar substitutes and nutrition at thesweetreality.com.

The following Truvia(R) brand products do not contain erythritol: Truvia Stevia Liquid Sweetener, Original Flavor; Truvia Stevia Liquid Sweetener, Vanilla Flavor; Truvia Stevia Liquid Sweetener, Caramel Flavor; Truvia Stevia Liquid Sweetener, Lemon Flavor; Truvia Allulose Sweetener
