Truvía® is a sugar substitute made from three main ingredients: stevia leaf extract, erythritol and other natural flavors. To make Truvía® Natural Sweetener, we first take the sweetest part of the stevia leaf and extract its natural flavor. But stevia leaf extract is 200 times sweeter than sugar, so to balance the sweetness we add a natural sugar alcohol called erythritol. Is Truvía® suitable for people with diabetes?
Studies show that consumption of Truvía® Natural Sweetener has no effect on the glycemic index and is well tolerated by type 2 diabetics as a sugar substitute.
Truvía® vs. stevia: is Truvía® the same as stevia?
Truvía® is the brand name for our stevia sweetened products. Stevia is a plant. Stevia leaf extract is the ingredient name for the extract derived from the leaf of the stevia plant. Stevia leaf extract is the primary sweetening ingredient in Truvía® Natural Sweetener, along with erythritol and other natural flavors.
Are there any medical conditions that should avoid products with Truvía® stevia leaf extract?
There are no known side effects of Truvía® Natural Sweetener and it is not known to be contraindicated for any medical conditions. Allergies are not common but could occur in sensitive individuals.
